Jamie Campbell ~ First Violin
Jamie Campbell was born in London in 1982 and educated at Dulwich College, Clare College, Cambridge and the University for Music and the Arts, Vienna. His principal teachers were Howard Davis and, more recently, Günter Pichler. In addition to being a founder member of the Solstice Quartet, he is in increasing demand as an orchestral leader and soloist. Recent solo appearances have included the Berg Concerto at the Cambridge Music Festival, and also at St. James' Piccadilly, the Barber with the London Charity Orchestra and the Tchaikovsky under Robin Ticciati. His awards have included the Allcard Award from the Worshipful Company of Musicians and the Ian Fleming Scholarship from the MBF. Jamie leads the Dmitri Ensemble, and the Orchestra of the Choir of London. He recently guest lead the London Sinfonietta in premiere performances of two new operas by Birtwistle and he regularly plays with the English Chamber Orchestra. In addition to this, he is Principal 2nd violin in the Aurora Orchestra with whom he has recently appeared at the Wigmore Hall and at the Aldeburgh Festival. He plays a violin by Stradivari from 1727 on generous loan from the Royal Academy of Music.
